How can PayFacs satisfy basic Underwriting requirements via the API?

Although the API Schema outlines which of the fields are required, we've assembled a few extra pointers to help you satisfy the basic underwriting requirements so your application can qualify for auto-boarding.

Owner/Officer First and Last Name

  • Input the full name. Inputting a nickname will cause the application to pend in Underwriting.

Owner/Officer Percentage of Ownership or Managerial Control

  • Owners: Signer must have Ownership/Equity of 50% or higher. If this is not true, they must show they have authority to sign on behalf of the company. If the owner does not control daily operations, the person who does must be included in Beneficial Owners.
  • Beneficial Owners: Provide full information for any person with Ownership/Equity of 25% or higher. If a 50% owner is not signing, provide full information for the person who exercises significant managerial control over daily operations.

Ensure all the following fields are populated:

  • Owner/Officer Full Address: Unit, Street Address, Street Name, City, State, Zip code
  • Owner/Officer Title
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address

Ensure all the following fields are populated:

  • Legal Business Name
  • Full Legal Address: Unit number, Building number, Street name, City, State, Zip code
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address
  • How long in present business: (Format: Years and Months) Example: 3 years 10 months
  • Start-up Date (Format: MM/DD/YY)
  • EIN***For Sole Proprietorships: In the UI, you can save your merchant some time by allowing them to indicate that the EIN matches the SSN. However, you must populate both fields in the payload.
  • Business Entity (such as Corporation, LLC, Sole Proprietorship)
  • Goods or Services Sold: May enter free text, 30 characters maximum.

Business Type (MCC Code):

  • The payload submitted must contain the MCC Code.
  • You can represent it on the UI as a description of the business type.

Business Website

  • Although the API does not list this as a required field, omitting it will cause the application to pend in Underwriting.

In your UI, you can use the “same as legal” flag to save the user time by allowing them to indicate that the Legal Information and DBA Information are the same. However, the payload must include both sets of data.

  • DBA Name: The usual name of the business
  • Full DBA Address: Unit number, Building number, Street Name, City, State, Zip code
  • Phone Number
  • Email Address

DDA: Must be a checking account

Routing Number

Indicate whether bank account is tied to the DBA name or the legal name.

Banking information must match either the Legal Business Name, or the DBA.

  • For Sole Proprietorships: The bank account can match the Owner name.

Monthly Volume and Average Ticket Size:

  • Payload:
    • If all your merchants will have similar monthly volume, we can default the value so you don’t have to include it in your payload.
    • If the monthly volume will vary across your merchant portfolio, you must submit an average ticket size and monthly volume with the payload.
  • We require a combined monthly volume for Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We require a separate value for American Express monthly volume.

Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express pricing must be a flat rate.

Include all other fees applicable to your merchants (such as chargeback fees, retrieval fees)

The Merchant must agree to the Terms of Service via Click to Accept.
